Hi, I’m Jiayi, a sixteen year-old girl living in Edmonton, Alberta. For as long as I can remember, drawing, designing and all things art-related have been my favourite hobbies, especially once I arrived in Canada. The relaxed learning environment and rich quality of life here allowed me an opportunity to develop my skills. When I learned that I had won the art competition, I felt an overwhelming surge of excitement; not only because my design was going to be recognized by others, but also because it would hopefully aid in bettering the lives of homeless people.

The concept of this design is based on the style of apartments in developing countries within the last century. Though the apartments are small and crowded themselves, the lively nature of the people that reside within them bring about an air of warmth and coziness. Unlike the simplicity and sophistication of traditional houses, they are characterized by a warm and comfortable atmosphere although they are small and crowded, and the small details are full of life, giving people the feeling of “home”. Unlike the simplicity and sophistication of traditional houses, the design is appropriately crowded based on the combination of letters, which makes people think of “home” rather than “house” at first sight, and the warm colours of the picture also emphasize this feeling. It combines my wish: May more homeless people find a place to belong.
