Preventing Homelessness in Canada
On Tuesday, August 16, the TD Manitoba team will be helping clean up the first Raising the Roof Reside project in Winnipeg! The abandoned nail salon will be transformed into three homes. The two larger units will be made available to Indigenous families at risk of child apprehension without safe, affordable, stable housing and the smaller unit will be made available to Indigenous youth aging out of care. Fearless R2W and North End Community Renewal Corporation will support the tenants and provide property management on an ongoing basis.
The work on the property is also a great opportunity for trades training for people with barriers to employment who want to work in the trades. Purpose Construction will train and employ 35+ people with barriers to employment in the trades, whether that is previous incarceration, being a newcomer to Canada, LGBTQ+ youth or other obstacles.
Raising the Roof needs help getting the exterior ready. The TD team will be weeding, removing trees, scraping paint and general yard clean up. All materials and refreshments will be provided. The day will start at 9am and end in the mid afternoon.
The first Winnipeg Reside project is generously supported by the TD Ready Commitment.
